In addition to his war record that included the Battles of Shiloh, Stones River, and Missionary Ridge, Breckenridge was also the 14th and youngest ever Vice President of the United States (1857-1861), represented Kentucky in both houses of Congress (1851-1861), and finished out the Civil War as the 5th and final CSA Secretary of War (1865).
