A CHRISTMAS CAROL, by Charles Dickens, with illustrations by John Leech, published by Chapman and Hall, London, 1843.  Second Edition. Hardcover 12mo, 166 gilt edged pages with hand colored frontispiece and three plates, four vignettes, in contemporary green morocco leather with gilt stamped covers and spine, marbled page edges. 6 1/2 in H x 4 3/8 in W x 3/4 in D.  Note: A Christmas Carol was so well received when released in December of 1843, that three editions were published before the new year of 1844, with 13 editions printed by the end of 1844.  The combined number of copies of the second and third editions are estimated at only two to three thousand copies.

Condition

Very good with slight toning; bumped corners, previous owner's name on title page; pencil writing ffep.
