Scarce 19th-century mezzotint engraving of Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, by Charles Turner (English, 1773-1857) after the watercolor portrait by Juan Bauzil (active c. 1816). Circa 1817. Matted and framed under plexiglass in a molded giltwood frame. Plate: 14 1/4" H x 9 7/8" W. Sight: 15" H x 10 1/4" W. Framed: 26 1/2" H x 21 1/3" W. Note: This print was published just two years after the allied army, under Wellesley's command, defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. He served as Britain's prime minister from 1828-1830 and briefly again in 1834, and remained Commander in Chief of the British Army until his death in 1852 at the age of 83.

Condition

Print is toned with scattered foxing, some buckling lower left corner, not examined out of frame. Mat with scattered areas of foxing and discoloration. Frame with scattered abrasions and wear.
