A dense treeline and open field are in the background beneath a cloud-filled blue sky. Signed in red "C Petit" lower left and inscribed "C. Petit" en verso of stretcher, possibly Charles or Corneille Petit. English art supply stencil mark en verso of canvas. Housed in a molded giltwood frame, possibly original, with foliate, bead and reel, and rosette decoration. Sight: 26 1/2" H x 19 1/2" W. Framed: 37 1/4" H x 30 1/4" W. Late 19th century.
