Late-19th century oil on canvas painting depicting cattle drinking at the edge of a body of water in a wooded landscape. Signed "C.W. Holmes" or "G.W. Holmes" lower left and dated 1872. Note: signature may also be obscured by frame, possibly "___d W. Holmes." Housed in a molded giltwood frame with linen liner. Sight: 16 1/2 in W x 10 1/2 in H. Frame: 22 in W x 16 in H.
Condition
Two 1/4 in indentions to center and center right of canvas and a tiny flake at lowermost center edge, otherwise very good condition. Some spots to linen liner.

Estate of Judge John Nixon, Nashville, Tennessee.
