Two (2) John Frederick Richardson (Tennessee/Illinois, 1906-1998) watercolor winter western landscape paintings, "Mountain Mist" and "Cliff Town." Both signed lower left. "Mountain Mist" dated 196[?] and "Cliff Town" dated 1965. "Mountain Mist" with The Annual Tennessee All-State Artist Exhibition, Parthenon Galleries, Centennial Park, Nashville, TN exhibition label affixed to backing. Both housed under glass in modern metal frames. "Mountain Mist" sight: 21 3/8In H x 29 3/4 in. W. "Mountain Mist" framed: 29 1/2 in. H x 37 5/8 in. W. "Cliff Town" sight: 20 3/4 in. H x 28 3/4 in. W. "Cliff Town" framed: 28 1/2 in. H x 35 3/4 in. W. Biographical note: "Preferring watercolor to oil, John Richardson had a long career painting landscapes in many styles and mediums and in many places from Tennessee to Arizona to Washington State. He lived in Tennessee and Illinois. He studied at Vanderbilt University, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the University of Chicago. Exhibition venues included the Pennsylvania Academy, Art Institute of Chicago and Vanderbilt University. Richardson taught at Watkins Institute in Nashville from 1938 to 1942 and from 1949 to 1969 at the University of Illinois in Chicago Circle." (Source: Peter Falk, "Who Was Who in American Art")

Condition

Both paintings in overall very good condition. "Mountain Mist" with pinhole punctures to corners plus even toning to sheet. Date is faded. "Mountain Mist" frame with minor abrasions and toning to mat. "Cliff Town" with pinhole punctures to lower right corner. Not examined out of frames.
