Two (2) Paul Jacoulet (France/Japan, 1902-1960) Japanese woodblock prints on wove paper. 1st item: "Les enfants des yeus jaunes, Ohlol Est Carolines" (The Yellow-Eyed Boys, Ohlol East Carolines). Two shirtless boys with yellow eyes and colorful headgear look toward the viewer. From the edition of 150. Pencil signed above butterfly chop mark, lower left. With printed title to lower margin, seals of carver and printer to right margin, and artist's watermark (his initials and name in kanji) to lower left margin. Sheet: 17 3/4 in. H x 14 in. W. 2nd item: "Vendeur de masques Chinois" (Chinese Mask Seller). A man with a shaved head sits on the ground before a group of Chinese masks that depict characters from the Peking (Bejing) Opera. Pencil signed above butterfly chop mark, lower left. Both housed under glass in a rusticated giltwood frames with green mats, black reveals, and finials. Both Sights: 15 1/4 in. H x 11 3/8 in. W. Both Frames: 23 1/2 in. H x 18 in. W. Biographical Note: "Paul Jacoulet was a French, Japan-based woodblock print artist known for a style that mixed the traditional ukiyo-e style and techniques developed by the artist himself. Paul Jacoulet's creative period was 1939-1960. Jacoulet is considered one of the few western artists to have mastered the art of woodblock printing sufficiently to be recognized in Japan. His works are almost all of people, either portraits or full body images capturing some background details." (Source: Northeastern University)

Condition

Both prints are very good impressions with vivid colors. 1st item is laid to backing board, with even toning throughout. 2nd item not examined out of frame. Both frames with minor abrasions.
