Two (2) plates from Giovanni Battista Piranesi's (Italian, 1720-1778) ll Campo Marzio Dell Antica Roma (The Campus Martius of Ancient Rome), originally published 1762. 1st item: Part of the Subterranean Cellars of the Capitoline Hill. Plate: 15 1/2" H x 11" W. Sheet: 21 1/2" H x 16 3/4" W. Frame: 26 7/8" H x 19 3/16" W. Ref.: Focillon 457, Wilton-Ely 440. 2nd item: Remains of the Triumphal or Vatican Bridge. Plate: 13" H x 9 1/4" W. Sheet: 21 3/4" H x 15 1/2" W. Frame: 26 3/16" H x 7 1/8" W. Focillon 475, Wilton-Ely 453. Both items on laid paper and housed behind glass in black and gilt frames with cream mats and double French lines. 1st item in excellent condition. 2nd item with foxing throughout and folded but intact lower margin, with fold being 1" from edge. Both with wide margins. Frames with gilt loss.
