Pieces are done by hand but joined by machine. 63 in. x 70 in. Circa 1890. 2nd item: Crazy-style utility quilt consisting of worsted wool suiting fabrics and velvets, hand-pieced and hand-quilted. The backing is a grey-white lightweight flannel and is folded to the front for binding by machine. Blocks are sewn to a white cotton foundation. 70 in. x 81 in. Circa 1920s. Note: According to oral history, these quilts were made by the consignor's great-grandmother, Alice Spicer Holbrook Brown, who resided in Wilkes County, NC.

Note, the edge has been reinforced along all four edges with a two-inch wide hem tape applied by machine. 2nd item: Some fabric loss in the wool; some color bleeding from the red wool and navy fabrics.
