An assortment of 23 pieces coin silver flatware attributed to Lexington, Kentucky makers and retailers. Includes 5 tablespoons marked W.B.E. LEX KY, attributed to Warren B. Ewing (4, see note below) and Henry Hyman (1); 3 dessert spoons marked E.C. Garner (2)) and Harting & Kroessing (1, with 1838 engraved back of handle); and 15 teaspoons. Teaspoon markings include Harting & Kroessing (7); Harris & Lemon in banner (1); E. C. Garner (4); Fred J. Heinze (1); and Nichols, in banner (2), possibly George Nichols, working Lexington c. 1850 and Danville c. 1860. All marks are incuse except where noted. Note: Marquis Boultinghouse's book SILVERSMITHS OF KENTUCKY references Warren B. Ewing (d. 1876) as working in Shelbyville. There is no mention of him working in Lexington, but this mark is very similar stylistically to the mark attributed to Ewing as a Shelbyville silversmith, c. 1840s-1876, pictured on p. 300. Ranging in size from 5 3/4" to 8 1/2" L. 20.58 oz troy total weight.

The Estate of Cora Jane Spiller, Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Condition

2 Harting and Kroessing teaspoons have damage including tears to bowls, other items are in good condition with surface wear; some spoons have worn tips. Nichols marks are worn. Assorted monograms.
