Group of three (3) McKenney and Hall hand-colored lithographs of Native American leaders from the folio edition of HISTORY OF THE INDIAN TRIBES OF NORTH AMERICA. Item 1: "Ho-Po-Eth-Le-Yo-Ho-Lo" (Creek), without imprint but from the same stone as that published by E.C. Biddle, Philadelphia, 1831(American Historical Print Collector's Society ID no. 32:NDa). Housed under acrylic in a wooden frame with green mat. Sight: 17 3/4 in. H x 13 3/4 in. W. Framed: 25 1/8 in. H x 19 1/8 in. W. Items 2-3: "Young Ma-Has-Kah, Chief of the Ioways," published by E.C. Biddle, Philadelphia, and printed by Lehman & Duval, Philadelphia, 1833-37; and "Kee-Shes-Wa, A Fox Chief," published by F.W. Greenough, Philadelphia, and printed by I.T. Bowen's Lithographic Establishment, Philadelphia, 1838. Both housed under glass in painted and giltwood frames. Both sights: 18 1/2 in. H x 12 1/2 in. W. Framed: 21 3/4 in. H x 15 3/4 in. W. All mid-19th century.
Item 1 in overall very good condition. Not examined out of frame. Items 2-3 with toning to sheets. "Young Ma-Has-Kah" with discoloration to upper left of sheet, not visible in figure, and a speck to right of text, possibly acid burn, plus scattered, minor foxing. "Kee-Shes-Wa" with minor discoloration to upper right of sheet, outside of figure, plus scattered minor foxing and areas of dampstainging along lower edge, 3/4 x 1/4 inch visible framed. Both with minor abrasions and losses to frames. Not examined out of frames.
