1st item: Scottish sampler, wool on linen, having a guilloche pattern border surrounding rows of alphabet and numbers separated by geometric bands. Signed and dated with location "Helena L. Shaw/Aug Sanquhar 1873" at the bottom. Float mounted on a green fabric backing and housed under glass in a carved, stained wooden frame. Sampler: 18 7/8" H x 12 3/4" W. Framed: 23" H x 19" W. Note: Helena L. Shaw was born in 1861 in Scotland to Jane Shaw, her siblings were Isabella W. Shaw and John W. Shaw. According to a 1901 census, she lived in Woodford, Essex, England. She passed away in London in 1927. 2nd item: American sampler, silk on linen, having rows of letters separated by decorative line borders, top half. Signed "Sarah Wiggins(?)" with illegible birth date, above rows of early 19th century birthdates identified by monograms, presumably representing other family members, lower half. Housed under glass in a wooden frame. Sight: 12" H x 13 3/4" W. Framed: 13 1/2" H x 15 1/2" W. Mid 19th century. 3rd item: American sampler, silk on linen, having rows of letters separated by decorative line borders. Signed "Frances Ashborn(?)" with images of a triangular object, a plant, a house, and additional letters to bottom. Housed under glass in an ebonized frame. Sight: 7 1/4" H x 16 3/4" W. Framed: 8 1/2" H x 17 3/4" W. Mid 19th century.

Not examined outside of frames. 2nd-3rd item: Areas of loss, fading to stitching, rendering some of the letters and maker's name partially illegible.
