Five (5) First Edition books, written, edited, or with a preface by Charles Dickens. 1st-2nd items: MEMOIRS OF JOSEPH GRIMALDI, Vol. I-II, First Edition, edited by Charles Dickens, with illustrations by George Cruikshank, published by Richard Bentley, London, 1838. Hardcover octavos, 551 total top edge gilt pages, engraved frontispieces, eleven additional plates, Vol. II with 36-page publisher's catalogue. Note: "The Last Song" plate with "grotesque" border, believed to be in the second state. 3rd item: THE UNCOMMERCIAL TRAVELLER, First Edition, by Charles Dickens, published by Chapman and Hall, London, 1861. Hardcover octavo, 264 top gilt-edge pages with 32-page publisher's catalogue, dated December 1860. 4th item: PICTURES FROM ITALY, First Edition, by Charles Dickens, with illustrations by Samuel Palmer, published by Bradbury and Evans, London, 1846. Hardcover octavo, 270 top edge gilt pages with engraved title pages and additional illustrations, two double-sided pages of back advertisements. 5th item: EVENINGS OF A WORKING MAN, BEING THE OCCUPATION OF HIS SCANTY LEISURE, First Edition, by John Overs, with a preface relative to the author by Charles Dickens, published by T.C. Newby, London, 1844. Hardcover octavo, 205 gilt-edge pages and three pages of back advertisements. 6 5/8" H x 4 1/8" W x 7/8" D. All volumes rebound by Riviere and Son, London in red morocco leather with gilt-stamped covers and spine, five raised hubs, gilt dentelle with dark green paper pastedowns and endpapers, ex libris plates to interior of front covers. Original cloth blind stamped covers and spines laid down to back matter pages. Ranging in size from 7 1/8" H x 4 3/4" W x 1" D to 8" H x 5 1/4" W x 1 1/8" D.

Covers in overall very good condition with wear to hinges, minor abrasions, corners slightly bumped. Pages in overall good, legible condition with toning/toning impressions, acid burn, scattered foxing spots, scuffs, creases, few pencil marks, light handling wear. Some pages unevenly cut. Plates are collated.
