Six (6) Gail Shipman Hammond (Tennessee, 1914-2007) landscapes on paper, including watercolor and ink paintings and drawings. 1st-4th items: Four (4) watercolor landscape paintings, including one (1) titled, "Chateau d'Amboise", depicting the chateau's facade with additional rooftops in the foreground, signed and titled lower left edge; one (1) titled, "Pompei [sic] Casa del Fauno", depicting the plaza ruins with Mount Vesuvius in the background, signed and titled lower right; one (1) titled "Florence", depicting the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore amid the city and surrounding countryside, signed and titled lower right; and one (1) titled "Azay le Rideau", depicting the chateau's facade with two trees in the foreground; signed, titled, and dated 1968 lower left corner. Most with framers' labels en verso; "Florence" and "Azay le Rideau" with additional paper label affixed, en verso. All housed and matted under glass in giltwood and gilt-accented wooden frames. Sights ranging from 8 1/8" H x 10" W to 18 1/2" H x 22 1/2" W. Framed ranging from 14 1/8" H x 15 3/8" W to 28 1/2" H x 32 5/8" W. 5th-6th items: Two (2) ink landscape drawings, including one (1) titled "Chateau d'Usse Rigny", depicting the chateau in three-point perspective, signed and titled lower right; and one (1) untitled, depicting the ruins of the Roman Forum, signed lower right. Both with framers' labels, en verso. Both housed and matted under glass in giltwood frames. Chateau: sight: 10 7/8" H x 7 7/8" W; framed: 18 1/2" H x 15 1/8" W. Forum: sight: 10 7/8" H x 11 7/8" W; framed: 20 7/8" H x 21 3/8" W. Biography: Gail Shipman Hammond received a Master of Arts Education from the Art Institute of Chicago before beginning her career as a university educator. She served as the Associate Professor of Art (Professor Emerita) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as well as its Chairman of the Fine Arts Division in 1964. During her tenure, she worked alongside fellow painter George Cress. Her work can be found in the permanent collection of the Hunter Museum in Chattanooga. Condition

All items with minor warping and toning to paper. Loss to mat surrounding Chateau d'Amboise, measuring 5/8" x 1/2". Frames with minute scattered wear to gilt. Not examined outside of frames.
