1st-7th items: Seven (7) Eleanor Roosevelt typed signed letters written on White House stationery between November 16, 1940, and May 8, 1941. The letters, addressed to Eleanor Roosevelt's friend Harriet Hoyt, include commentary on a wide variety of subjects including President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's 1940 reelection, public criticism levied at the First Lady, the President and First Lady's 1941 Florida vacation, a Mother's Day poem written by Hoyt for the First Lady, and wartime community service. 8th-12th items: Five (5) Eleanor Roosevelt typed letters signed by her secretary, Malvina T. Scheider, and written between December 19, 1934, and October 16, 1940, also on White House stationary. The letters, also addressed to Harriet Hoyt, thank Hoyt for her Christmas and Birthday greetings, among other topics. A letter dated August 21, 1940 is addressed from Hyde Park. Note: Harriet Hoyt was born July 23, 1894 in Binghamton, New York and died March 3, 1963 in New York City. She was a proofreader for a printing house. Her photograph is included at the end of the image sequence.

PROVENANCE: By descent through the Hoyt family.

Condition

Overall very good condition, with fold lines to letters. Envelopes with some soiling, toning, and tears.
