A river winds through a hazy, wetland landscape rendered in Drysdale's atmospheric style. Pencil signed and dated 1916, lower left. Housed under glass in a giltwood frame with cream mat and grey reveal. Sight: 14 1/4 in. H x 19 1/4 in. W. Framed: 22 1/8 in. H x 27 1/8 in. W. Lot includes a copy of Howard A. Buechner's DRYSDALE: ARTIST OF MYTH AND LEGEND (Metairie, LA: Thunderbird Press, 1985). Biographical Note: Alexander Drysdale is known for his hazy Louisiana landscapes painted using a distinctive oil wash technique. He studied at the Southern Art Union and at the Arts Students League in New York City before opening a studio in the French Quarter of New Orleans. His work is in the collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and The Historic New Orleans Collection.
