American School, 19th century oil on canvas still life painting depicting an etched glass bowl of grapes, a pineapple, watermelon, strawberries, cherries, peaches, and other fruit, along with an Egyptian Revival style ewer, all atop a marble-topped table. Unsigned. Housed in an antique giltwood and composition frame with floral scroll moldings. Sight: 23" H x 32" W. Frame: 29" H x 38" W.
Wax patch to back, corresponding area under watermelon. UV light reveals approximately 8" line of inpainting far left, near frame, extending from center of watermelon to foliage of pineapple. Possible inpainting to "marble" next to watermelon. Two 1/2" flakes upper center in grape leaves. Two possible small linear areas of inpainting to right side of canvas, at bottom terminus of handle on ewer, and at the lowermost right hand corner. Couple of small areas of bloom upper right corner. Some thin paint and 1 1/2" scratch lower left corner. Painting appears to have been cleaned within the last 20 years but not lined.
