Item 1: Benjamin Franklin (American, 1706-1790) chapbook consisting of one uncut, folded sheet with twelve pages including a woodcut portrait of Franklin and entitled THE WAY TO WEALTH, WRITTEN BY THE LATE DR. FRANKLIN. EXTRACTED FROM HIS POLITICAL WORKS. Printed by C. Sutton, Nottingham, c 1800. With content from Franklin's 1758 essay initially published in Poor Richard's Almanack as a sermon delivered by "Father Abraham" and including the now-familiar sayings “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise," "There are no gains without pains," "Never leave that till to-morrow, which you can do to-day," "God helps those who help themselves," and others. Folded: 6 3/4" H x 3 3/4" W. Unfolded: 20" H x 7 1/2" W. Item 2:  THE JACK DAW "AT HOME:" OR, BRITISH NOBILITY BURLESQUED children's book. Published by William Charles, Philadelphia, 1815. Consisting of sixteen pages of text plus six hand-colored engravings. Inscribed "William Whitehead, Jun[ior]" in pencil to fly leaf and to title page, with 1816 date to title page. 5" H x 4" W. 

 

 

Condition

1st item in overall good condition with handling wear including edge and fold line tears and minor losses plus even toning, espeically to front and back covers. 2nd item missing top 3/4 of pages seven and eight. With 3 1/4" tear to front cover and 1 1/4" tear to fly leaf plus edge tears and minor soiling and creasing throughout.
