Chinese watercolor on silk fan painting with four courtesans in a courtyard, the leaves of a tree hang overhead at right. With red seal to lower left. Housed in a possibly later hardwood, detachable frame and stand with carved foliate base and hanging fixtures to backing. Sight: 6 1/4 in H x 15 1/2 in. W. With stand: 11 1/2 in. H x 17 in. W. Qing Dynasty, 19th century.
Condition
Painting with fold lines and creases with pigment loss throughout. 1 1/4 in. L tear without loss to silk at upper left. Frame with repaired breaks to lower and upper edges plus minor paint spatter along upper edge, not visible frontally. Pinhole or small nail puncture to center of back of base.
