Clara Hoffman (1862 - 1897, NC/Ohio) oil on canvas bust portrait painting depicting a young boy with brown hair and dark brown eyes, wearing a black coat, a white wide-collared shirt, and a red patterned necktie, against a shaded brown to green background. Signed and dated lower right in red "Clara Hoffman, 1895". Housed in a foliate carved wood frame. Sight:16 1/2"H x 13 1/2"W. Framed: 20 5/8"H x 17 5/8"W.

Condition

Overall light cracklure, most visible in the background. Old patch repair upper left quadrant. Discoloration to the upper forehead of the subject, possibly a disturbance of the varnish layer in an attempt at cleaning. No overpainting was observed under UV exception apart from the above-mentioned repair.
