Classic American Victorian Crazy quilt, 16 block design, and quilted with velvets, a wide variety of silk fabrics, and satin, including some ribbons. Blue velvet border and medium brown striped silk backing. Hand-quilted, cross-hatch, and some clamshell. Embroidered elements include fans in each corner, an anchor, daisies, butterflies, and a child's head, with embroidery along the seams. 65 in. x 65 in. Circa 1880s.
Condition
Typical fabric loss of the silk from this period, cotton foundation is visible in many places underneath. Losses are most noticeable in the center.
