A 19th century coin silver goblet and horn and sterling fish set from the family of James Harvey Pride and Sallie Leroy Betts Pride of Huntsville, Alabama. 1st item: Coin silver goblet with beaded rim and foot, and repousse floral swag design to body, stamped underside for maker Bailey & Co., Philadelphia, and PURE COIN, along with scratched initials EPJ. 5 3/4 in. H. 4.49 oz troy. Circa 1850. 2nd item: Victorian horn handled fish serving knife and fork set with decorative scroll-pierced sterling silver blade, root and tines and repousse sterling silver ends, monogrammed P, in a fitted green velvet lined case. Case 18 in. x 6 in. x 2 1/4 in. Note: the initials scratched on the bottom of the goblet are those of Elizabeth Broun Pride Johnson (1909-1997), in whose father's family the goblet and fish set descended. The fish set is monogrammed P for her parents, James Harvey Pride (1877-1934) and his wife, Sallie Leroy Betts Pride (1888-1939) of Huntsville, Alabama. The goblet's Bailey & Co. marks date it to approximately 1852-1862, suggesting it likely came from one of the couple's grandparents' homes. Both had grandfathers who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. James Harvey Pride's grandfather was the Alabama Confederate spy James Harvey Pride Sr. (1816-1874). Sallie Betts Pride's grandfathers were Edward Chambers Betts (1821-1891), also a Confederate spy from Alabama and later a judge and Alabama's first commissioner of Agriculture, and Lt. William Leroy Broun (1827-1902), who headed the Confederate Arsenal at Richmond, Virginia, and later became president of Auburn University.
