Edmund Jennings Randolph (1753-1813) signed One Shilling and 3 Pence PISTEREEN note, No. 45762, issued on Virginia. Reads: One Shilling and Three Pence A PISTEREEN Current Money of VIRGINIA Pursuant to Ordinance of CONVENTION passed July 17, 1775. Fifteen Pence. Fifteen Pence, vignette of Virginia Colony Coat of Arms, top right. Signed, lower left. 2 3/4 in. H x 3 1/2 in. H. Historical note: Edmund Jennings Randolph was one of the Founding Fathers, a skilled lawyer, and Virginia’s seventh governor. He took part in the Constitutional Convention as a delegate from Virginia and helped draft the U.S. Constitution on the Committee of Detail. President George Washington appointed him as the first U.S. Attorney General, and he later became Washington’s second Secretary of State.
Condition
Vertical crease to the center with overall toning. Two untoned circular areas are visible on the back.
