Old Master style, likely Italian or French School, oil on canvas religious painting depicting the Nativity, with the infant Christ-child lying in a manger surrounded by The Holy Family, kings, shepherds, and animals. The clouds open to reveal a choir of angels and putti hovering in the heavens above, with barn architectural details and landscape in the background. Unsigned. Housed in a foliate molded giltwood frame. Sight: 19 3/4" H x 15 1/2" W. Framed: 28 1/2" H x 24" W. 19th century or earlier.
Painting has been lined, compromising texture of paint. Some minor areas of loss throughout. Craquelure cohesive with age and light scattered retouching. Wear and small losses and repairs to frame.
