Continental School, possibly Flemish, oil on panel painting depicting a wooded landscape with a body of water. Figures in a boat pull a large limb from the water, while another figure walks near the waterfront. Unsigned. Period, possibly original, molded giltwood frame. Sight: 14 1/2 in H  x 21 1 /2 in W. Frame: 21 in. H x 28 in. W. Late 18th/early 19th century. 

Condition

UV light inspection shows 1 in. area of repair to lower left quadrant, on grass. Repaired split to panel in upper right sky area. Other scattered retouch, particularly to edges. Frame has a 7-inch area of surface loss to lower left side and several other areas of loss and repair. Regilding to frame.

Provenance

The collection of Dr. William and Susan Bernet, purchased in the 1980s.
