After Edward Weston (American, 1886-1958) silver gelatin photograph depicting the yard of African American sculptor William Edmondson (American/Tennessee, 1874-1951). Numerous sculptures fill the grassy area in front of his Nashville, Tennessee home/workshop; others are visible on the porch, under Edmondson's homemade sign advertising his wares. Float mounted on white cardstock and housed in a contemporary black metal frame. Printed by Cole Weston (1919-2003) from his father’s original 1941 negative. With Edward Weston’s stamped signature en verso along with Cole Weston’s pencil signature. Photograph: 7 1/2 in H x 9 1/2 in W. Framed: 16 1/4 in H x 20 1/4 in W. Note: Photographer Edward Weston visited Tennessee in 1941 while creating images for a new edition of Walt Whitman’s "Leaves of Grass". A significant number of the photographs he took while in Nashville were of Edmondson, who had recently become the first African American to have a solo exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art.
