Oil on canvas bust-length portrait of a red-haired woman who tilts her head backward as she gazes confidently at the viewer, early 20th c. She wears an ornate red dress or clothing and poses before a mottled brown background. Signed "JJ Henner," upper left, however Isabelle de Lannoy, author of the Jean-Jacques Henner catalog raisonne, has confirmed that the signature and painting are not by Henner. Housed in an ornate, molded giltwood frame with foliate decoration. Sight: 20 1/2" H x 14 1/4" W. Framed: 31 1/4" H x 26 1/2" W.
Condition
With scattered, minor abrasions primarily to background, largest are two 9/16" L parallel scratches to upper left. Slight waviness to canvas and faint stretcher mark along upper edge. Craquelure to neck. Frame with abrasions and gilt loss, especially to corners and left edge.
