Everett Raymond Kinstler (New York/Connecticut, 1926-2019), "Navajo," sanguine pencil on paper profile portrait depicting a Native American man with head turned to side. Signed and dated lower right "Everett Raymond Kinstler, 1984, N.A.". Housed under glass in a gilt-trimmed wood frame with linen mat and white liner. Sight: 9 1/2" H x 7 1/2" W. Framed: 16" H x 14" W.

Biography: Everett Kinstler, who died in 2019, is regarded as one of the foremost portrait and illustration artists of the 20th century. A Native New Yorker, Kinstler began drawing comic books at the age of 16. He studied at the Art Students League, where he later taught from 1969 to 1974. As part of the "Golden Age" of comic book artists, his illustrations influenced the Pop Art school. The latter portion of his career was spent mainly as a portraitist. Kinstler painted seven presidents (including two official White House portraits), first ladies,  50 U.S. cabinet members, Hollywood personalities and other notable figures. The National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C., has acquired more than 100 of Kinstler's original works for its permanent collection, and his work is also represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Butler Institute of Art, and the Brooklyn Museum, among others.
