Evert Pieters (Dutch, 1856-1932) oil on canvas impressionist style portrait depicting a Dutch woman wearing a white head covering and brown dress. Signed "E. Pieters" lower right with possible additional signature en verso. Housed in the original carved giltwood frame with acanthus, floral, and ribbon moldings. Sight: 11 1/2" H x 9 1/2" W. Frame: 18 1/4" H X 16 1/2" W. Artist Biography: Evert Pieters was born in 1856 in Amsterdam. As a young man he moved to Belgium (we would be known as The Fleming despite his Dutch roots) where he received early artistic training from the Belgian landscape painter Theodoor Verstraete. In 1894 he won the second class medal at the second world exhibition in Antwerp for his painting "Wheatfield In Flanders" and, in 1896, was awarded the gold medal at the Salon des Champs Elysees in Paris for the same painting. "Wheatfield in Flanders" also won a gold medal in Barcelona in 1898. In addition to landscapes and figural artworks he painted many still lifes in a style influenced by Dutch artists of the seventeenth century. Pieters eventually moved to Blaricum and began painting Gooise interior scenes there, which were well-received. As such, he is among the most prominent Gooise painters. His works are in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, the town hall of Brasschaat, the Rijksmuseum of Bilderbeek-Lamaison in Dordrecht, the Frans Halsmuseum in Haarlem, the Museum Hilversum, the Singer Museum in Laren, and museums in Barcelona, ​​The Hague and Toledo. Painting is in overall good condition with small area of slight abrasion to paint lower right. No restoration observed under UV light. Frame has several small losses and some wear, particularly at corners and edges.
