Florence Bartley Smithburn (Indiana, 1904-1989) oil on canvas board circus scene depicting an African American circus clown engaged in a lively performance before a large crowd. Behind him seals and a horse and rider also perform. Signed "Florence B. Smithburn," lower left. Housed in a simple wood frame. Sight: 19 1/4" h x 15 1/4" W. Frame: 24 3/8" H x 20 3/8" W.
Condition
With areas of minor retouching above clown's head, to right of signature, and along upper right edge of board, largest 3" L.
