George Ayers Cress (Alabama/Tennessee, 1921-2008), oil on canvasboard Georgia regionalist landscape painting, titled "View of Tallulah Falls Gorge". This work, painted early in Cress's career, depicts a mountain scene with rocky terrain and lush green foliage, with a small house and tree in the foreground, under a blue sky. Signed and dated "Geo. G. Cress '39" lower right. Titled and dated "July 27th 1939" en verso. Unframed: 19 3/4" x 24" W.

Condition

Some slight abrasion and losses to corners and edges. Evidence there may have been another painting laid upon this before the paint dried. Some scattered fleabite losses and grime.
