American or English school oil on board marine coastal landscape painting depicting a steamship departing a bay with a sailboat in the background, a flock of seabirds in flight to the left, and a rocky shoreline with a broken mast and debris in the foreground. Signed and dated "J Wagner 1901" lower right. Housed in a Newcomb-Macklin style giltwood frame. Sight: 19 1/2" H x 29 5/8" W. Framed: 27 5/8" H x 37 5/8" W.
Overall good condition with areas of discoloration/surface grime, particularly noticeable in the sky area, and an abrasion along the lower right side, measuring 6 3/8" L.
