Jean Venitien (French, 1911-1955), "Bouquet sur la Lagune," oil canvas painting depicting a vase of flowers on a brightly colored tablecloth and table, overlooking a coastal landscape. Signed lower right. Titled en verso on label from The Eric Galleries, New York. Molded giltwood frame with carved inner band surrounding a linen mat. Sight: 39 in. square. Frame: 47 1/2 in. Square.

Provenance

The estate of Elisabeth Hardin, Gadsden, Alabama, by descent from the collection of her mother, Mary Goss Hardin, the first woman in the United States to open a food store franchise with the Piggly Wiggly Company. She ultimately owned 15 Piggly Wiggly/Warehouse Market stores across North Alabama and served as president of the Piggly Wiggly Operator’s Association, the first woman to do so.
