President John F. Kennedy - an Album of 45 press photographs of or relating to his political career, presidency, and assassination. The period photographic prints, most accompanied by typewritten captions with dates, begin with a July 16, 1960 photo of then-Senator John F. Kennedy accepting the Democratic nomination for President at the Los Angeles convention and include scenes from his inauguration, meeting with other leaders including Dwight Eisenhower, Nikita Khrushchev, Pope Paul VI, through Kennedy's funeral on Nov. 24, 1963, the questioning of assassination suspect Lee Harvey Oswald on Nov. 23, 1963, and Oswald's own funeral on Nov. 26, 1963. There are approximately 25 photographs related to Kennedy's assassination, memorials, and investigation, including an AP wire photo of Kennedy slumping against his wife as he was shot while riding in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas on Nov. 22, 1963. Most of the photos contain press stamps or handwritten notes en verso. The album also contains a number of news clippings and other ephemera related to conspiracy theories around the assassination, a black-edged printed sympathy acknowledgement note with envelope from First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, a copy of U.S. Senate Resolution 230 containing eulogies (Dec. 12, 1963), and three First Day issue covers with stamps honoring Kennedy. There is also a copy of one of Kennedy's official portrait photographs by Fabian Bachrach. Photos range in size from approx. 6 in. x 8 in. to 8 in. x 10 in. The photographs and other ephemera are housed in a black 12 in. x 11 1/2 in binder.

Condition

Photographs and ephemera in overall good condition with some degrees of handling wear.  Small margin loss to Bachrach portrait.

Provenance

The estate of Robert Estrin, Nashville, TN.
