Our July 6-7 Live Auction in Knoxville features more than 1,000 lots of Fine Art, Antiques and Jewelry from the founding family of Rogersville, TN, and from the historic Pinckney family of Charleston, SC; from the estate of William J. Eskind of Nashville; the living estate of Jerry Waters, Maryville, the estate of U.S. Ambassador Ron Schlicher of Brentwood, and from other fine estates and private and museum collections. Joseph H. Sulkowski (Pennsylvania/Tennessee b. 1951) sanguine or red conte crayon drawing of a reclined nude male figure. Signed "Joseph H. Sulkowski" lower right. Matted under glass in a black molded frame. Sheet: 11 1/2" H x 14" W. Framed: 20 3/4" H x 23" W. Biography: "Following graduation from Canon-McMillan High School, Joseph Sulkowski studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, founded in 1809 and the oldest art school in the U.S. Later he met his greatest influence and mentor, Frank Mason, the foremost authority on the principles and techniques of the Old Masters at the Art Students League of New York. Mason was the last protege of Frank Vincent DuMond whom he succeeded as teacher in Studio 7 at the League. DuMond and Mason each taught in Studio 7 for a combined period of over 100 years...Joseph Sulkowskiʼs work is represented in public and private collections worldwide. His two murals of Saudi Arabian history reside in the King Abdul Aziz Museum in Saudi Arabia. Other collectors include Rolex, the Duke of Bedford, Marshall Field IV, George Michael and the Tennessee State Museum." (Source: artist's website).
