Large Charles Forrester (American, 1928-2010), "Matriarch," carved wood sculpture consisting of stacked and carved laminated wood and depicting a stylized female with long hair. Mounted onto a circular black base. Branded FORRESTER 1989 lower back. 67 in. H x 13 in. W. Biography: Charles Forrester earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Washington and his Masters from the University of Oregon. He studied sculpture under Everett DuPen and Jan Zach. He also taught and worked for several years in Europe before moving to Southern Kentucky, where Forrester became the first professor of sculpture at Western Kentucky University. He taught there for 27 years and designed the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center with its state of the art metal casting foundries. Forrester was known for his large outdoor sculptures, such as the 25-ft tall "Equestrian" at the entrance to Springfield, Oregon, but he also created smaller sculptures in bronze, aluminum, and laminated plywood. Upon retiring in 1992, he and his wife moved to Nashville, where he continued to work, maintained a studio until his death in 2010.

Overall good condition, with some light rubbing to the surface of the back lower sections.
