Manner of Thomas Chambers (New York/England, 1808-1869) oil on canvas landscape painting with a covered bridge and causeway that plunge toward a distant village, 19th c. A couple beside a stream at lower right look toward a fisherman in a small boat while a figure shown in silhouette stands beside the bridge, with another figure in the road on the opposite side. Trees with colorful autumnal foliage cover the hillside at left. Housed in an ebonized and giltwood frame. Sight: 21 1/2 in. H x 29 1/2 in. W. Framed: 25 1/8 in. H x 33 1/8 in. W. 

Overall very good condition, with craquelure throughout and yellowing to varnish. Minor abrasion with loss to small tree at lower left, 3/8 inch x 3/16 inch, along with several specks of negligible flaking. Retouching to frame abrasions, especially to left, right, and lower edges. With negligible, scattered retouching, especially to lower left quadrant. See UV photography.
