Numerous portraits throughout. Notations by George W. Samuel, a member of the Eighth Tennessee Cavalry, with some of his handwritten accounts within. In a section regarding the Eighth Tennessee Cavalry's efforts against Union General Stephen Burbridge, there are two handwritten eyewitness pencil notations in the margins, elaborating on movements and scenes, specifically the capturing and destruction of the saltworks at Saltsville, December 20-21, 1864.
