Oreland C. Joe, Sr. (New Mexico, b. 1958) cold-painted bronze sculpture titled "Mountain Breeze" depicting a young Native American woman with long hair blowing behind her wearing turquoise beaded jewelry and belt with traditionally patterned textile accents and purse clutched in her hands. Signed, dated, and numbered "O.C. Joe CA (copyright) '95 3/18" to lower back edge. Mounted on a circular, tiered swivel base. Includes two certificates of authenticity, one from the Legends Casting Co. Foundry and one from Mountain Trails Gallery. 26 1/2" H x 14" W x 10" D. Weight: 42 lbs. Note: The original Mountain Trails Galleries receipt is available to the winning bidder. Artist biography: Oreland Joe was born in Shiprock, New Mexico of Navajo and Ute descent. Realizing his artistic talent early, Joe was given alabaster to carve while still in high school. This led to a variety of studies and careers in art, including time studying at the Louvre and the Toyko Museum of Art as well as instructing at the Cowboy Artist of America Museum and San Juan College. He has been awarded numerous accolades from the Cowboy Artists of America since his election as the first Native American member in 1993.
