Two (2) Japanese Meiji period tortoiseshell trays with raised gilt lacquer decoration featuring birds in a landscape, one (1) having Mt. Fuji in the background, and one (1) having inlaid mother of pearl details. Both have a leaf form with a scalloped rim, oval base, and small handle. Both are approximately 5 1/2" H x 9 3/4" W x 1 1/2" D. Late 19th/early 20th Century.

Condition
Overall good condition with some surface scratching and loss and scattered loss of lacquer decoration, especially in areas where base is attached. Base on one dish has been re-adhered. One dish with repaired crack to edge, approximately 2 1/2" L. Both handles have been repaired.
