Biography: Hailing from a privileged background, Paul Antoine De La Boulaye received artistic training in Paris including under the tutelage of portraitist Leon Bonnat. He made his Salon debut in 1873 with a depiction of David and Goliath, and in 1889 was awarded a Salon 3 Class Medal. In his later career, he painted a series of Orientalist-inspired works, often exotic women posed with rich fabrics, juxtaposing texture and color, for which he is perhaps best remembered. He also served as President of the Bourbon Fine Arts Society.
