Paul Jacoulet (France/Japan, 1902-1960) shin hanga Japanese woodblock print depicting two women sheltering from a storm at Metalanim (Nan Madol) on the island of Pohnpei in the East Caroline Islands, 1935. Pencil signed “Paul Jacoulet” above mandarin duck chop mark, lower left. Titled A Metalanim Ponape...Est Carolines (Downpour at Metalanim Ponape...East Carolines) to lower right margin. With JP watermark, lower left. From the first edition of 150. Editioned 109/150 in Japanese en verso. Housed in a Japan paper folder with hinged window mat and tissue interleaving, possibly original to the print. Sheet: 18 1/2” H x 13 13/16” W. Portfolio: 20 3/16” H x 14 13/16” W.
