Robert Burns Wilson (American/Kentucky, 1850-1916) watercolor and gouache on paper painting depicting a cabin in a hazy landscape setting. A woman and child stand near the door while a man works the crops; an additional cabin is visible in the background beneath a group of trees having autumn foliage. Signed "Robert Burns Wilson" lower left. Housed under glass in a carved giltwood frame. Sight: 15 1/4" H x 21 3/4" W. Framed: 25 3/4" H x 32 1/2" W. Biography: Robert Burns Wilson was born in Pennsylvania and taught himself to paint. He settled in Frankfort, Kentucky by 1875 and is known for his paintings of Kentucky landscapes and his portraits. He also found success as a poet. His most famous poem is "Remember the Maine," based on the battle cry from America's entry into the Spanish-American War.

Condition

Overall very good condition. Examination out of the frame reveals the watercolor is mounted to board. Frame with areas of natural age shrinkage, minor losses to gilt, largest 1/2".
