Robert Duncan (Utah, 1952), "Winter Stillness," oil on canvas winter landscape painting depicting a Native American man draped in hide, carrying a rifle, and riding a horse through a forest covered in thick snow. Signed and dated "R. Duncan CA (copyright) 83" lower left. Additionally signed, titled, and dated to paper label affixed en verso of backing; additional label en verso for Trailside Galleries. Housed in a silvered wooden frame with gilt placard having title and artist affixed to lower sight edge. Sight: 19 1/2" H x 27 1/2" W. Framed: 26 5/8" H x 34 3/4" W. Artist biography: Robert Duncan grew up in Salt Lake City as one of ten children, summering in Wyoming at his grandparents ranch. It was here that he developed his love for the landscape of the American West. He studied art at the University of Utah and worked as a commercial artist before his full-time dedication to the fine art of the American West. Duncan was elected into the Cowboy Artists of America at 29 and won silver medals in their annual Phoenix exhibition. Duncan later resigned from the Cowboy Artists to devote more time to painting subjects other than the West. (Source: the artist's website).
