Robert Natkin (American/Chicago, 1930-2010), acrylic on wove paper abstract painting, number six from the artist's "Intimate Lighting" series. Organic shapes and fields of vibrant colors, some applied through a mesh, overlap and blend together.  A light-green border encloses the composition. Signed in pencil to lower center-left. With Andre Emmerich Gallery, New York label and stamp to backing. Also inscribed "#6" and "Emmerich" to backing. Housed under glass in a metallic frame. Sight: 35 in. H x 56 3/4 in. W. Framed: 36 in. H x 57 3/4 in. W. 1972/3. Note: In 1973, Natkin exhibited twelve artworks from his "Intimate Lighting" series at New York's Andre Emmerich gallery. In his April 1973 Artforum review of the exhibition, Joseph Masheck notes that all dated from 1972. However, the Andre Emmerich gallery label affixed to the backing of the present example dates this work to 1973. See Joseph Masheck, "Robert Natkin," Artforum 11, no. 8 (1973), 81. Biographical Note: "Chicago-born Robert Natkin studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and is best known for his unique blending of abstract styles of the second half of the 20th century, including Abstract Expressionism, Color Field painting, and Lyrical Abstraction. Natkin utilized found fabrics and textured materials to create surface character." (Source: Delaware Art Museum)
