Robert Remsen Vickrey (American, 1926-2011), "Rainy Crossing," egg tempura on board, imaginative realist painting depicting a nun wading or traversing across a reflective green surface toward a white horizontal line, her back to the viewer. Signed "Robert Vickrey" lower right. Titled en verso on label from Harmon Meek Gallery, Naples, FL. Housed in a simple giltwood frame with a linen mat and gilt filet. Sight: 11" H x 15" W. Framed: 18" H x 22" W. Biography: Robert Vickrey once described his artistic objective as "the perfect fusion of a beautiful abstract shape and a spiritual anachronism." He was known for his expressive realist paintings -often featuring nuns and clowns - produced in one of the most difficult mediums in art: egg tempera. He was first introduced to the medium during his studies at Yale University under Lewis E. York. He also studied briefly at the Art Students League in New York under Reginald Marsh and Kenneth Hayes Miller. As well as having a successful career as a painter, Vickrey was an avante-garde filmmaker, winning awards at the New York Golden Reel Festival, and illustrated over seventy-five cover portraits for Time magazine beginning in 1957.

Overall very good condition with two slight abrasions to upper edge.
