1910 bird's eye view of the University of the South at Sewanee, Tennessee, after an original illustration by Arthur J. Elder (1874-1948), published by W.T. Littig & Co., New York. Matted and framed under plexiglass in a wood veneer frame. Sight: 28 in. W x 15 in. H. Frame: 37 in. W x 24 in. H. Note: London-born artist Arthur Elder studied with J.M. Whistler and Walter Sickert in the UK and was active in the Chelsea Art Club before moving to San Francisco in 1905. He exhibited at the Mark Hopkins Institute in spring of 1906. After the devastating San Francisco earthquake he moved East. By 1925 he had settled in Westport, CT. where he was director of the Westport School of Art for many years. Elder's illustrations of the State University of Kentucky and the University of Missouri were also made into prints.
Condition
Overall very good condition; some light marks or grime to lower margins. Not examined out of frame. Some scuffs and scratches to frame.
