Wayne White (California, Tennessee b. 1979), block print published by Hatch Show Print of Nashville, TN., titled "HOOZYTHINKYIZ". The poster comes from an exhibit of White's by the same name, and references an early work of White's, featured in an article and on the cover of a Nashville periodical that White remembers fondly and associates with Nashville. White was invited by Hatch Show Print to work in-residence at the Hatch letterpress in Nashville, and designed and printed this poster for his exhibition. 40" W x 26" H. Note: Hatch Show Print, a working letterpress print shop since 1879, uses its vast collection of vintage type and hand-carved imagery to create timeless designs that express and commemorate America's evolving cultural identity. Biographical Note: Born in Sand Mountain, Ala., and raised in Hixson, Tenn., Wayne White attended Middle Tennessee State University in the late ’70s and spent some of his artistic formative years working at the Cumberland Science Museum. Several of his more meaningful artistic achievements happened in Nashville, including working with Nashville-native artist Red Grooms and designing sets and puppets for a children’s show on local public TV station WDCN. White [then} worked as a set and puppet designer on the landmark children’s television show Pee-wee’s Playhouse from 1986 to 1990. That gig won him three Emmys and catapulted him from sign painting and conducting local puppet shows to directing groundbreaking music videos (Smashing Pumpkins’ “Tonight, Tonight” and Peter Gabriel’s “Big Time”) and showing his work in prominent museums and galleries."
