Note: Vol. I includes first issue points: "Christmas 1851" on Dedication page; missing "xi" page number. 4th-5th items: AMERICAN NOTES FOR GENERAL CIRCULATION, Vol. I-II, First Edition, by Charles Dickens, published by Chapman and Hall, London, 1842. Hardcover octavos, 614 total top gilt-edge pages, Vol. I with one back advertisement page, Vol. II with three double-sided back advertisement pages. Note: Vol I. includes first issue point: first pagination is page "xvi". 6th-8th items: THE LETTERS OF CHARLES DICKENS, Vol. I-III, First Edition, edited by His Sister-in-Law and his Eldest Daughter (Mamie Dickens and Georgina Hogarth), published by Chapman and Hall, London, 1880-82. Hardcover octavos, 1,235 total top gilt-edge pages, Vol. II and III with indexes, Vol. III with 32-page publisher's catalogue to back, dated November 1881. 9th-11th items: THE PIC NIC PAPERS, Vol. I-III, First Edition, edited by Charles Dickens, with illustrations by George Cruikshank, Hablot K. Browne (Phiz), and others, published by Henry Coburn, London, 1841. Hardcover octavos, 999 total top gilt-edge pages, with engraved frontispieces and eleven additional plates. 12th item: THE MUD FOG PAPERS, ETC., First Edition, by Charles Dickens, published Richard Bentley and Son, London, 1880. Hardcover octavo, 198 top edge gilt pages, three double-sided back advertisement pages. 13th item: SPEECHES LITERARY AND SOCIAL, by Charles Dickens, published by John Camden Hotten, London, n.d. Hardcover 12mo, 372 top gilt edge pages including index, laid down frontispiece portrait of Dickens with additional engraved portrait to title page, fifteen double-sided publisher's catalogue to back, dated 1871. All volumes rebound by Riviere and Son, London in red morocco leather with gilt-stamped covers and spine, five raised hubs, gilt dentelle with dark green paper pastedowns and endpapers, ex libris plates to interior of front covers. Original cloth blind stamped covers and spines laid down to back matter pages. Ranging in size from 6 1/4" H x 5" W x 7/8" D to 9" H x 6 1/4" W x 1 3/4" D.

Condition

Covers in overall very good condition with wear to hinges, corners slightly bumped. Pages in overall good, legible condition with toning/toning impressions, acid burn, scattered foxing spots, scuffs, creases, few pencil marks, light handling wear, few scattered minute tears, chipping to corners of some pages. Some pages unevenly cut. Plates are collated. 6th-8th items: Front cover to Vol. I is mostly separated from spine. 9th-11th items: Volume III plates are present, however, all face the incorrect pages, for example, "The Wizard" faces p. 134 not p. 234, "Matre Pierrot" faces p. 198 not p. 298. 13th item: Some pages to publisher's catalogue appear to be out of sequence.
