1st item: Frank Gervasi (Italy/Texas/New York, 1895-1986), oil on board landscape painting titled "Early Fall" depicting rolling hills with trees having verdant and autumn foliage under a cloudy blue sky. Signed "F. Gervasi," lower right. Title on label en verso. Housed in a simple wood frame with gilt border and fillet. Sight: 8 1/2" H x 11 1/2" W. Framed: 13 3/4" H x 15 3/4" W. Biography: Frank Gervasi was born in Palermo, Sicily in 1895. He immigrated to New York in 1908, gained United States citizenship in 1919, and served in the US Army in the 27th Division in the First World War, where he lost his right arm, the arm he used to paint. Determined to continue painting, he moved to New York City and studied with Master teachers George Luks, Robert Henri, and Frank Drumont at the Art Students League of New York. Gervasi was a member of the National Academy of Design, Allied Artists of America, and the American Watercolor Society, the Salmagundi Club, and Audubon Artists. (Source: Elizabeth Gervasi Lantiere). 2nd item: Ike Koenig (American/Texas, 1895-1944) oil on board Texas landscape painting depicting a road leading through a grove of leafy green trees. Signed "Koenig" lower right. Dated April 8, 1939 en verso with pen inscription, "From Mr. and Mrs. McCain." Original Koenig Studio label en verso. Original moulded giltwood frame. Sight: 5" H x 6" W. Framed: 9" H x 10" W. Note: Ike Koenig was a female painter active in Kerrville, Texas, in the 1950's and 60s. She studied with Peter Hohnstedt, Hugo Pohl, at the University of Chicago and Taft Studio. She also founded the Kerrville Art Club in Kerrville Texas in the 1950's. 1st item with one small abrasion in upper left corner, otherwise in very good condition. Frame with slight wear and losses. 2nd item is in excellent condition.
